You've been in the stand since dark and nothing has moved for three hours. Your microphone can't tell a hoof step apart from moving air near your head. Turn the gain up far enough to hear your prey and you'll also hear a crosswind, rain hitting leaves, and your sleeve dragging across your chest. Each one takes a different fix.

Putting a foam wind filter over the microphone port breaks up moving air before the microphone can turn it into signal. It costs less than a box of ammunition. Turning your gain down works too, but that can cost you the hearing reach you need.
